The professional world of flowers can be filled with plastics and waste. Florists use what are called “mechanics” to build and hold their creations. Floral foam has long been the preferred mechanic in the industry, generating millions of pounds of plastic waste per year. Floral foam is a non-recyclable microplastic which floats in our air, pollutes our water, and permeates our soil.
At Narrow Path we are constantly searching for reusable and sustainable products which are recyclable and compostable - reducing our foam use by 65%. More and more sustainable products are becoming available to florists, but many are not yet ready for market. Our promise is that you can feel good about our designs, knowing that we have done our best to preserve a healthy environment. “I wanted to send you a quick message about how your sustainable practices impacted our wedding celebration. We gave the wedding guests sections of the lush tablescape, and I received lovely pictures of these beautiful flowers in smaller vases that are still today making us smile. Our daughter took the fall fruit home, and we all saved the very fresh rosemary from the arrangements. I recently have used it on a roasted chicken. Yummy! Finally, the rich soil that held the flowers have been placed around our catmint bed in our yard. What a super culmination to such a memorable event! Lezlee you are dream maker”.....Lynn 10/2023
